White March against Violence
Ivory Coast. The Humanist Center of Cultures is organizing in Abobo a “White March against Violence” on 2 October 2011 to commemorate the International Day of Non-violence.The aim of the members of the Humanist Center of Cultures is to promote non-violent behaviors among the inhabitants of Ivory Coast. This message is extremely important in a country that underwent a long period of post-electoral conflict between the former president supporters and the supporters of the current one.
The march will start at Rond Point du Banco (where eight women were killed by the tanks of the former president during the conflicts) and will finish at Rond Point de la Mairie (the town hall). Then, a ceremony will be held in the wedding hall of the town hall. For this march, participants will be asked to wear white (white clothes, white headscarf and so on).
Abobo is one of the places more affected by the violence during the conflicts. The team of the Humanist Center of Cultures of this city will be supported in this action by all the other humanists of Ivory Coast. All of them are working hard in order to organize the event, inviting other organizations and institutions as they want this march to have a wide-reaching impact in the country.
The motto that will appear in the banners they are making is: “Peace, non-violence and reconciliation in Ivory Coast”
